Junwoo (Johnny) Jang

Junwoo (Johnny) Jang is a Ph.D. student in Mechanical Engineering at Stanford University, specializing in experimental thermal metrology and nanoscale heat transport. His research uses time-domain thermoreflectance (TDTR) to probe thermal transport in diamond particles, with a focus on how particle size governs their thermal properties. This work aims to inform the design of high-conductivity diamond-based materials for thermal management in high-power electronic devices.

Prior to Stanford, Johnny earned his B.S. and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University, where he worked on ultrafast laser processing of hafnium zirconium oxide and thermal characterization of 2D MXenes. He has presented his work at SPIE Defense + Commercial Sensing and co-authored a study in Science on the entropy-driven order-to-disorder transition in layered and 2D carbides. Outside of research, Johnny enjoys cooking, hiking, camping, backpacking, and reading.
