After a lot of string-pulling and rule-bending, we finally had a group retreat after not having had one for almost 3 years! A special appearance from the man of the hour, the host of the evening, Ken, made this a truly unforgettable experience.
Following the postponement of our 2023 Winter Lab Retreat, the group decided to eat their disappointments away at Fambrini’s cafe!

Qianying and Chris got big recognition at the annual SRC Techcon earlier this month! Both were honored with Top 10 Presenter Awards. Qianying was chosen for her work on capillary-fed boiling, and Chris for his progress on interface controlled transport in GST superlattices. Qianying and Chris represented NanoHeat at the first in-person Techcon Conference since the Pandemic in Austin, TX! They had a great time dominating the student awards along with Prof. Pop and Prof. Chowdhury’s students: Michelle Chen, Connor Bailey, and Mohamadali Malakoutian.
NanoHeat went all out at Daeho in San Mateo! This was a long-overdue dinner for our visiting students Kiwan and Daeyoung, who had just come back from a Vegas trip with Heungdong… tfti ._.
NanoHeat came in hot with burgers, sausage, and BBQ beef short ribs when hosting the annual MERL BBQ after so many years without one! Special thanks to visiting students Daeyoung and Kiwan from Korea who greatly helped with the cooking, and Joseph for making the time to come down from Berkeley!!
We had a ball when Hansen made his famous Giordano’s pizza and invited us over! After dinner, we headed to the EVGR pub where Qianying treated us to some great Kirkland sparkling cider.
