Matthew Coughlin

Matthew Coughlin is a Ph.D. student in Mechanical Engineering at Stanford University with an interest in equipping the next generation of power electronics and high-performance AI chips with advanced thermal management solutions. His research focuses on the design, fabrication, characterization, and optimization of micro-patterned structures such as pin fins for use in thermal interface materials and capillary-driven two-phase coolers.

Prior to Stanford, Matthew earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering at Northeastern University. There, he studied interfacial instabilities in polymer solutions and reacting systems. He is a Knight-Hennessy scholar and a recipient of the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship (NSF GRFP). Outside of research, Matthew enjoys skiing and traveling.
